Oriyomi Hamzat, the owner of Agidigbo FM in Ibadan, has been released from Agodi Correctional Centre after fulfilling his bail conditions.
He was granted bail along with co-accused, Naomi Silekunola (ex-queen of Ooni of Ife) and Bashorun Abdulahi Fasasi, following their involvement in the tragic Ibadan stampede that led to the deaths of 35 children.The suspects were admitted to bail by Justice K. B. Olawoyin on January 13, 2025, with a bond of ₦10 million each, alongside two sureties in like amounts.According to Punch, the stampede occurred during a funfair at the Islamic High School, where the accused allegedly failed to provide adequate security, crowd control, and medical facilities, contributing to the disaster.
Upon his release, Hamzat was greeted by a large crowd at his broadcasting station, visibly emotional and in tears.Addressing the crowd, he expressed gratitude but remained reflective, saying, “Oriyomi is back.At this time, I am in a moment of silence.Thank you very much.”The case has sparked public outrage, with charges including conspiracy to commit murder, manslaughter, and criminal negligence against the accused.The Oyo State government has filed an 18-count charge, and the suspects are expected to appear in court for further proceedings.
